Drawing is a hugely important part of my practice as a sculptor. The physical manipulation of the charcoal and graphite enables me to 'think' into new works and to focus my attention. Charcoal smudges are layed down onto the paper then worked into using sharpened pencil in a way that is suggested by the shape and nature of the existing marks. Observation is important - although the drawings can appear largely abstract, recognisable elements may be identified.
