My textile work fuses together traditional craft-based techniques that have historical associations with women, (embroidery, stitch work and applique) with more contemporary techniques of image making, like screen printing and etching. The juxtaposition of these different forms allows for a comparison into what each form represents; the traditional crafts usually represent individual, disciplined work, and more contemporary methods could be associated with consumerism and mass production. The work contrasts pattern, print and has been influenced by fashion designers such as Christian LaCroix and Marimekko whose creative and inventive work often uses detail and ornamentation.
