KidsCan Children’s Cancer Research Centre was established late in the year 2002 to specifically support research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Scientists are looking for treatments which are less damaging to the bodies of children and young adults. They aim to reduce both short and long term side effects whilst retaining the effectiveness of many current treatments.
The work carried out within the KidsCan laboratories covers a range of activities from basic research into new treatments, through to applied research focused on improving the outcome of therapies currently used in the treatment of children with cancer.
The organisation receive no statutory funding and relies entirely on contributions from the public, volunteers, businesses and funds generated through special events for the groundbreaking research to continue.
Leftfield is a keen supporter of KidsCan and aims to promote the work of the charity through whatever means it can. In June 2009, Leftfield artist Cheryl Beswick created "Cotton Paper Tree", a large scale drawing, 9 metres in length combining drawing, print and stitch. The experimental work consisted of 54 separate compositions each of which was auctioned of in support of KidsCan.
Leftfield plans to continue working with Kidscan on similar projects in the coming months. To find out more about the charity please visit www.kidscan.org.uk
